Young Fours
The younger four year olds foster independence and intellectual growth through social play and the introduction of pre-math and pre-reading activities. Imagination is engaged through literature, dramatic play, and arts and crafts. The class helps children develop a sense of who they are and the “give and take” of being a part of a group. Work and play habits are established through gentle guidelines and encouragement that help children follow directions, persist at a task, share with others and make positive choices. The "games" teachers provide give students an opportunity to learn about classifying, sorting, predicting, solving and analyzing results.
Pre-K Our Pre-K program works to instill a strong intellectual, emotional, and social framework. This lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Different "games" the teachers use help with differentiated instruction to teach problem-solving and critical thinking. We develop the whole child by using discovery in a stimulating, fun, and organized environment. Circle Time activities include counting, phonemic awareness, linear calendar, listening to literature, and classroom discussions. Fine motor skills are developed through sensory play, art, and cutting. We use the “Handwriting Without Tears” program which gives the children an age-appropriate and hands-on experience with letter formation and correct pencil grip. Our children are encouraged to become more independent and responsible as the year progresses.
